Don Vappie & Evan Christopher Band — “Jazz a la Creole“
Don Vappie and Evan Christopher’s new project is a “Creole Jazz” showcase of New Orleans music seasoned liberally with French patois and Spanish tinge. Christopher and Vappie both have reputations for vigilantly searching for ways to make the roots of New Orleans music contemporary. Featured guests will include NYC-based trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso and trombonist Michael Watson. Kellso’s early jazz trumpet expertise is the reason he gets the first call from musicians such as Wynton Marsalis or Vince Giordano and his Nighthawks. His work with the latter can be heard on the Grammy winning soundtrack of Boardwalk Empire and at regular appearances in New York hotspots. Michael Watson is a relative newcomer to the scene, but also has a Grammy credit for his work on the last release by the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra.
